AI Tracks Are 44% of Uploads and 1–3% of Streams. Both Numbers Matter.
T.I.M. Editorial · November 1, 2026
Deezer's 2026 disclosure reframes the AI debate: the catalog is being flooded, but listener attention is not following. Platform enforcement is now aimed at the flood.
The gap between supply and attention
Deezer disclosed in April 2026 that roughly 44% of new daily uploads to its platform are AI-generated, while AI-generated tracks account for only about 1–3% of total streams. The same disclosure stated that around 85% of streams of AI tracks were flagged as fraudulent and demonetized by its detection pipeline.
That last figure is vendor-measured and has not been independently replicated, so treat it as the platform's own claim rather than an audited statistic. The supply-to-attention gap is the more useful number: the catalog is expanding far faster than listening is.
Platforms are enforcing at the upload layer
- Spotify said it removed more than 75 million spam, fraud and low-quality AI-flooded tracks in the twelve months to September 2025, and described a filter that tags mass uploads, duplicates and artificially short tracks and stops recommending them.
- From April 2026, distributors began asking artists which parts of a release were AI-generated, with those answers surfacing to listeners as AI credits.
- From mid-September 2026, Spotify began rolling out AI Persona badges, saying that by default it will exclude AI Personas from editorial and algorithmic recommendations.
Why the distinction matters
If AI music were simply competing on merit, stream share would be the story. Upload share is the bigger problem for anyone trying to be discovered: release volume, not quality, is what search and recommendation systems have to absorb. Every independent artist now competes for attention against a supply curve that is no longer limited by how long it takes a person to write a song.
